Summer is right around the corner, and it’s time to start planning your summer vacation. If you’re looking for a trip that won’t break the bank, then you need to check out these five Southern cities.
Little Rock, Arkansas
If you are looking for affordable outdoor activities in Arkansas, then you should consider visiting the capital city, Little Rock. One of the must-see attractions in Little Rock is the William J. Clinton Presidential Center & Park. It boasts 148,000 square feet of museum, historical exhibits, and an exact replica of The Oval Office. If politics aren’t your cup of tea, you can make your way over to the longest pedestrian bridge in the world, The Big Dam Bridge. It connects 20 miles of riverside in Metro Little Rock and is a great place to go for a jog or bike ride. These are just a few of the affordableactivities in Little Rock. While budgeting your trip, you’ll also want to find a cheap hotel inside the city.
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
On the southeast coast of Florida, this sunny city is one of the hottest vacation spots in the South. Fun and affordable, it’s a great place for you to spend a few days this summer. Without a doubt, the best outdoor activity in Fort Lauderdale are the beaches. From Dania Beach to Fort Lauderdale Beach, there is enough sand to go around. If you can manage to pull yourself away from the beautiful ocean views, I’d highly recommend taking an airboat tour of the Everglades. Not only will you feel the rush of riding an airboat, but for just $35 you can see turtles, exotic birds, and of course, alligators. If you want to find an affordable hotel on the beach, look into staying at the Ocean Sky Hotel and Resort.
You may have never heard of Kissimmee, but it is in the heart of central Florida, close to destination sites and very affordable. If you’re planning a trip this summer, I’d highlyrecommend staying in Kissimmee. Most vacationers stay in Kissimmee because of its close proximity (10 miles) to Walt Disney World Resort. However, if you don’t have $100 or more to spend on entertainment, there are some other outdoor activities worth checking out. Gatorland is a local attraction that focuses on one of Florida’s most iconic animals, the alligator. There are hours of activities in the park, but none more exciting than a gator zipline. Kissimmee also has Shingle Creek Regional Park, dozens of wildlife tours, and miles of lakefront parks that make for entertaining outdoor activities.
Pompano Beach, Florida
If you are looking for an affordable beach alternative in Florida, then you need to consider vacationing to Pompano Beach. This beautiful city is located between West Palm Beach and Fort Lauderdale. If you enjoy tranquility and avoiding the crowds, then you’ll love Pompano’s beach. Known as “the Heart of the Gold Coast,” this little city features miles of outdoor activities like fishing, boating, scuba diving, snorkeling, and relaxing on the beach. If you want a nice and cheap beachfront hotel, the Sea Club Resort is a great option.
St. Petersburg, Florida
About 30 minutes from Tampa, this beautiful, vibrant city is worth visiting this summer. Fun in the sun starts at the St. Pete Beach. You can enjoy local shops, fresh food, and live entertainment all along the coast. If you’re looking for some other activities, the Salvador Dali Museum is within walking distance of the beach. The best part is, you can visit St. Petersburg without breaking the bank, as there are many cheap hotels that are under $100 a night.
