Road Trips are a blast. If you’ve never taken a cross-country trip before, now is the time to do it! There are a ton of incredible destinations that will leave you with memories to last a lifetime. If you are planning a trip, then you’ll love these 5 cities that will make amazing pit stops on your next road trip.
Saint Louis, MO
St. Louis is an iconic Missouri city on the Mississippi River. It has a big city feel without the hustle and bustle that you might see in places like New York or L.A. If you make a stop in St. Louis, you need to see the Gateway Arch. This world-famous monument sits beside the Mississippi River and makes for an unforgettable sight. You can watch a Major League Baseball game right down the road at the St. Louis Cardinals’ stadium, which is one of the nicest stadiums in professional baseball. If you want an incredible view of the stadium and the Gateway Arch, you should consider staying at the Hilton St. Louis at the Ballpark which overlooks both.
Branson, Missouri is one of the most popular travel destinations in the country. It’s best known for its wide range of entertainment. From music and performing arts, to shopping and outdoors, Branson has something for everyone. If you are looking for a family-friendly activity, check out Silver Dollar City, which is a local theme park with exciting activities and rides. My favorite ride is the American Plunge which climbs more than five stories before sending you straight down at more than 30 MPH. You’ll not only love Branson for its variety of entertainment, but you’ll also enjoy the affordable hotels in the city.
Bismarck is the capital of North Dakota, and a great place to spend a few days on your cross-country road trip, especially if you love history. You can see the State Capitol, and then nearby, the North Dakota Heritage Center. If you are looking for an outdoor activity, visit the Dakota Zoowhich has more than 600 different species of animals.
If you make your way to Nebraska, visit Omaha. It’s the state’s biggest city and sits along the Missouri River. If you plan a trip to Omaha in 2016, plan for middle to late June which is when they will be hosting the College World Series Baseball Championship at TD Ameritrade Park downtown. This incredible park is within walking distance of another popular attraction, the CentryLink Center. CentryLink Center is home to all kinds of entertainment events. From the Harlem Globetrotters to Carrie Underwood, there is always something exciting happening at the CentryLink Center. If you are in town for the College World Series or one of the entertainment events at the arena, you’ll want to stay at Hilton Omaha which sits directly between them both.
Sioux Falls, SD
If you find yourself looking for something to do in South Dakota, then look no further than Sioux Falls. Sioux Falls is the largest city in South Dakota and provides a number of indoor and outdoor activities. One of the best things to do outdoors in Sioux Falls is to visit Falls Park. This public park crosses the Big Sioux River and has several breathtaking views. It’s a relaxing way to spend the afternoon and provides endless photo opportunities. Afterwards, you should take some time to explore downtown Sioux Falls and find a great hotel to rest for the night.
